(23) happy...
YIPPEE!!
I won a return Thai Airways ticket to Bangkok!
But the ticket's valid till 31 May...
When can I go?
I've got to send the kids to school...
I've got emails & faxes to attend to...
And what will happen when I'm away?
Will they spend endless time on the computers?
Will they squabble over the computers?
Will my home resemble a war-zone when I get back?

(21) failure...
If you had not done well in Term 1, do not be discouraged.
Today is the first day of Term 2 and it is your opportunity to redeem yourself...
do you know...
Failure is not a single, cataclysmic event. You don't fail overnight. Instead, failure is a few errors in judgment, repeated every day. ~ Jim Rohn
and...
Failure doesn't mean you are a failure... it just means you haven't succeeded yet. ~ Robert Schuller
so...
Forget past mistakes. Forget failures. Forget everything except what you are going to do now and do it. ~ William Durant
remember...
There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work and learning from failure. ~ Colin Powell
therefore...
My will shall shape the future. Whether I fail or succeed shall be no man's doing but my own. I am the force; I can clear any obstacle before me or I can be lost in the maze. My choice; my responsibility; win or lose, only I hold the key to my destiny. ~ Elaine Maxwell
most importantly...
Redefine the word 'FAIL'. There is no failure in life other than NOT TRYING. If you want something badly enough, make an attempt. If you want to paint, get a brush and do it. If you want to sing, sing. A lot of people get scared. They're afraid to fail. Take that word out of your vocabulary. You don't 'fail'. YOU'VE 'TRIED YOUR BEST'. ~ Jane Seymour
Get my drift??

(20) can you believe this?
The public health system in Singapore SUCKS!! Are the citizens suppose to rely on the private hospitals and pay through their noses? If you can afford the exorbitant fees of a specialist in a private medical centre, FINE! But if you are one of the economically challenged - TOO BAD!
Remember my fall on New Year's eve? Well, I still had this persistent pain which was aggravated when I carried a heavy load on Wednesday. Before you scold me for being so stupid, let me tell you that I had no choice. I was with my 75 year old mother-in-law, so naturally I had to carry it for her.
I suspected that my pain was due to Rotator Cuff Impingement Syndrome. What the heck is that? Hahaha, if you are always online, go find out for yourself! Anyway, I went to a polyclinic today, saw the good doctor for less than 2 minutes, then paid $8 - all these solely to get a referral letter to see an orthopaedic specialist at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. Can you believe this?? The earliest date TTSH could give me was 13 June! Hello??? That's like 3 MONTHS from today! Then the clerk at the polyclinic told me if I wished, Alexander Hospital could see me at end-April while it was end-May if I opted for NUH.
I phoned TTSH immediately! Yep, 'efficient' TTSH had records of my visit to their A&E Dept simply by keying in my nric number BUT still could not give me an earlier appointment date! And similar to what the clerk at the polyclinic had advised, the TTSH clerk told me go to the A&E Dept, wait patiently (pun unintended) for at least 2.5 hours to see a doctor, pay $70 (AGAIN!) and I would be given an appointment with an orthopaedic doctor within 5 DAYS!! Hello?? Did I hear wrong again?? @&()%!#~!!%#$*&(~@^^&
Why am so I insistent on seeing an orthopaedic specialist at TTSH?
Firstly, it is the closest hospital to my home.
Secondly, my X-rays are at TTSH A&E Dept.
Therefore, I will keep the given appointment on 13 June.
BUT I will call TTSH every day to check!
Hello... are there any last-minute cancellations today?
Yes?
Can TTSH slot me in?
Who will outlast these daily calls?
TTSH or this pest with a chip on her shoulder?

(19) time really flies...
Wow, Term 1 is over...
The students are supposed to enjoy their one week's break - catch their breath after Term 1 CAs OR do some self-reflection OR revise the subjects they're weak in OR just simply slack and bum around (without spending too much $$ of course)! But for many, they'll be just as busy or maybe even busier with their never-ending school-related activities!
Just look at my kids... Jon was already in school by 7.20am this morning for his Legion camp while Ben had to meet fellow councillers after mass to discuss their programme for Orientation 2. Poor Emily, she was supposed to have fun with Melissa at Orchard today. Instead, she had to be at Yio Chu Kang by noon for an ARC exco meeting as they are in the midst of intense preparations for the 3-day FRS competition this week.
And poor poor me... I thought that with the start of the school holidays, I could sleep in late today, attend evening mass, followed by dinner out! Hmmph, I had to wake up early to send Jon to school. As Ben and Emily had meetings today, the family attended the 8.15am mass, after which Emily went for catechism class. After I dropped Ben off at PS, it was back home for breakfast. All too soon, it was time to pick Emily from her catechism class. Then we swung home to pick up her ARC stuff as well as Brenda. After dropping the girls off at Yio Chu Kang, I decided to drop by SJI to pass Jon his shoe bag which he had left behind in the car. As I had predicted, the Legion people were taking their lunch, so it was a quick and easy drop.
It was 12.20pm when I reached home. I took a 5-min nap as I had a terrible headache from all the driving. The maid was 'off', so I cooked a simple lunch aka instant noodles for hubby and myself. I didn't want to eat out anymore as I was so tired of getting in and out of the car by then! Ahhhh... I checked my mail after lunch, surfed a bit and decided to update my blog!! But I've got to go off now - got to prepare dinner cos the maid will not be back until 6pm. And I thought today was going to be a lazy Sunday for me!!
But however busy you are during this short break, do take time to read this and may it help you become a better person...
Watch your thoughts, for they become words.
Choose your words, for they become actions.
Understand your actions, for they become habits.
Study your habits, for they will become your character.
Develop your character, for it will become your destiny.
