Saturday, September 24, 2005 * (52) woman drivers...

My previous post, albeit a very brief one, was on cars and licence plate numbers. My next post, naturally, is on drivers...

A WOMAN and a man get into a car accident. Both their cars are totally demolished, but amazingly neither of them is hurt. After they crawl out of the wreckage, the woman says: 'Wow, look at our cars - there's nothing left!

'Thank God we are all right. This must be a sign from Him that we should be friends and not try to pin the blame on each other.'

The man replies: 'Oh yes, I agree with you completely.'

The woman points to a bottle on the ground and says: 'And here's another miracle. Somehow this bottle of Scotch from my backseat didn't break. Surely God wants us to drink this Scotch and celebrate our good fortune.'

Then she hands the bottle to the man. The man nods in agreement, opens it and chugs about half of the bottle to calm his nerves. He then hands it back to the woman.

She takes the bottle, immediately puts the cap back on and hands it back to the man.

The man asks: 'Aren't you having any?'

The woman replies: 'No. I think I'll just wait for the police.'

This post is dedicated to nyan/ahkow tongue because:
1. He loves liquid diets
2. He has gotten his driving licence

3. He is a gentleman (read his 'Love and Mambo and Puke' post)

Thursday, September 15, 2005 * (51) arghhhhhhhh....

I took delivery of my new car last Saturday! So, like all Singaporean new car owners, I decided to try my luck at 4-D. I bought the new car number for Saturday's and Sunday's draws!

Why? Why? Why? Why didn't I buy the number for all the 3 days allocated to 4-D draws? Laogong's eldest sister smsed! Darrick phoned! Arghhhhhhhh.... Knocks head! Pulls hair! Beats chest!

My new car number came in for a consolation prize in today's 4-D draw!

Friday, September 09, 2005 * (50) worried...

This is a long overdue post which I started on some time back but never got round to publishing it. Over the past 2.5 months, mum's condition had been improving slowly but steadily. From a total loss of vision, she had gradually regained quite a fair bit of her sight. We were all so pleased with her progress till last Tuesday......

Tue 30/8:
Mum woke up in the morning and saw many floaters in her left eye but she didn't inform anyone
At around 2.30pm, she realised that she had lost her vision again but she still didn't tell anyone
She went about with her normal routine but after her daily prayers, she still couldn't see
By then it was close to 4pm, so she finally called my youngest brother
While youngest brother was calling the eye clinic for an immediate appointment, I happened to call mum at that time
She thought that youngest brother had contacted me but when i said 'no', she told me she couldn't see
I called youngest brother, then left home immediately to fetch mum to NUH
Mum was seen by a retina specialist and a b-scan was done, plus other eye checks
The b-scan did not show any retinal detachment but there was a shadowy patch at the back of the eye
The retina specialist tells mum to see her doctor as scheduled tomorrow
Mum was also told to increase her eyedrops to 4X for that day

Wed 31/8
:
I accompanied mum for her scheduled appointment at NUH
Her doctor, a consultant from Gleneagles Hospital, had been updated by the retina specialist
Though very disappointed with this setback, he was not too worried as there was no retinal detachment
He said that it was most unlikely to be a new infection as mum's eye was not red, swollen or painful
He said that the debris in the eye that had clumped together probably broke up and scattered, thus causing the loss of vision
Or it could be fresh bleeding somewhere in the eye due to some strain on it
He told us not to worry and to continue applying the eyedrops daily
He would see mum in 1 week's time and by then, he would decide whether mum should continue with the eyedrops or have an operation

Wed 7/9:
It had been a week and mum had not regained her vision
Her doctor did another b-scan today and showed us the shadowy patch again
At this stage, he was not in favour of another operation
He said that if mum is patient (pun not intended) she should continue with the eyedrops and allow her body to clear up everything on its own

SIGH... please continue to keep my mum in your prayers!
