(119) dearest laogong...
YOU KNOW YOU'RE GETTING OLD WHEN...
* 'Happy Hour' is a nap
* It takes longer to rest than it did to get tired
* No one expects you to run into a burning building
* Getting lucky means you find your car in the parking lot
* In a hostage situation you are likely to be released first
* The little white-haired lady you help across the street is your wife
* You are cautioned to slow down by your doctor instead of the police
HAPPY 47th BIRTHDAY!
**UPDATE**
Laogong was sad because I did not prepare his usual steamboat birthday dinner as I already knew he had to work late. But he was very happy when Judith called from Brisbane to wish him a happy day. Then Gabrielle and Damien, our little god-children aka niece & nephew, phoned him at work too.
Later when Laogong got home, Ben, Emily and Jon surprised him with his favourite chocolate cake from Lana's! When his sister sent Brenda aka Big-Mama No 1 Fan over for her sleepover, she asked Laogong about how his birthday was. Even Laogong's mum asked him if I had prepared steamboat for him!
As our kids are always so busy with their own stuff and Laogong comes from a very big family, he was over-the-moon that so many people actually remembered his birthday. Funnily, Laogong did not know exactly how old he was... and he started counting the candles on his cake!

(118) sloth...
Wow, I had not blogged for more than 2 weeks! No, I was not exercising self-discipline in restricting my computer usage. I was just being plain lazy. Do you not know... laziness is nothing more than the habit of resting before you get tired! Actually I prefer the word 'indolence' because it makes my laziness seem classy.
Anyway, who would want to read about my life? It's really super boring. It's almost the same old routine every day, Mondays to Fridays.
~ wake up, send Em & Jon to school
~ come home, send Ben to camp
~ come home, clear mailbox whilst taking breakfast
~ read the papers (in the loo)
~ wash up, brush teeth (it makes sense to do that after a meal, right?)
~ go to the office to be 'lao-pan-niang' for an hour or two, maybe more
~ come home, clear mailbox again
~ pick Em, Jon & Ben (different times on different days)
~ dinner & evening walk with Laogong
~ call mum for a little chat
~ shower, clear mailbox yet again, sleep
Of course, there are those trips to the supermarket & wet market, parents' medical check-ups, other errands here and there etc etc. And once in a very blue moon, there is that little bit of 'excitement' like when a van reversed into our car on Tuesday evening. It was a very minor accident but I think everyone in our car was shell-shocked by my screaming rather than the sight of a van slowing reversing into our car. To compound my stress, the @~#*%!$=^ van driver who had apologised so profusely after the accident decided to sing a different tune the next morning!
BUT THANKS TO BORNEO MOTORS, EVERYTHING ENDED WELL THAT SAME MORNING!
So do you believe in karma? What goes around, comes around! Hmm, I wonder what will happen to that dratted van-driver?

(116) snow?
This is Edward, one of my many nephews. He's been sleeping over alot lately. As the maid is still sick, I decided to go to the carwash. As usual, Edward was ever ready to tag along. Perhaps he thought I would buy him something at the petrol station?
Emily and Brenda (one of my very few nieces aka big-mama's No 1 fan) decided to join us. The girls had not been to a carwash for a very long time. They thought I was going to an auto (no pun intended) wash. They didn't know that those mechanised washes have all gone bust. I didn't know they had taken a camera along until...

(115 ) sick...
I had a terrible toothache last week and had to have root canal treatment. Anyone who has done this will know that it is a most tedious and agonising procedure which involves at least 2 visits. To make matters worse, it was a molar whereby 4 nerves were involved. Imagine keeping your mouth open for 1 hour last week and 1.5 hours this week! I have to go back for the 3rd session next week and the doctor had told me it would be 2-hour long! I hope that next week will be the last time I see her until my regular check-up is due!
And just when I thought I could enjoy this weekend, I started sneezing non-stop this afternoon. I may have caught the bug from either Ben or the maid. Well, I had spent the whole of Monday night sponging Ben as his fever went as high as 40*C. It was a sleepless night for him because he cannot take any medicine for fever at all as he is allergic to paracetamol and NSAIDs. And the maid was ill on Monday too. I helped out in the kitchen. So this whole week was spent in close proximity with 2 sick people!
I love money, who doesn't?
But health wins hands down...
Money is the most envied, but the least enjoyed.
Health is the most enjoyed, but the least envied.
Why do so many people spend their health gaining wealth,
And then spend their wealth to regain their health?
